The Importance of Sleep

Sleep is not just a state of rest. It is a crucial time when the brain goes to work. A time to clear waste, strengthen memories, and regulate emotions within us. It's one of the most powerful and natural forms of self-care, yet fewer than 30% of teenagers get enough sleep to fulfill daily tasks.

The brain accounts for approximately 20% of all energy demands, even when we sleep. Good sleep throughout our lives is associated with being healthier, having better concentration, or simply feeling more balanced emotionally, but sleep issues are not equally distributed among people. For example, women are nearly twice as likely to have insomnia, and men are more likely to snore or have obstructive sleep apnea.

Sleep may look passive, but it’s a profoundly active time. It is an opportunity for the brain to restore itself, process emotion, and rebalance. The more we learn, the more evident it is that allowing time for sleep is not an option; it is necessary for every human.

And maybe, in sleep’s silence, the brain’s clearest voice is heard throughout our whole body.
